Saint
Martin From 1963
Saint-Martin together with Saint-Barthélémy a separate arrondissement
of
Guadeloupe as Saint-Martin et Saint-Barthélémy.
2007 it became the
Collectivité de Saint-Martin, an overseas collectivity
of France located in the Caribbean. The northern parts of the island of
Saint Martin and neighbouring islets, the largest of which is Île Tintamarre.
The southern part of the island, Sint
Maarten, is part of the Netherlands
Antilles. The official language in the island is English. After the
2007-elections the Council had 12 male and 11 female members.
